Masha Mashkova starring in the play "INOSTRANKA" based on Sergei Dovlatov's novel

Germany will host the world premiere of the theater project "INOSTRANKA" - a modern stage interpretation of Sergei Dovlatov's story "Inostranka". Actress Masha Mashkova plays the title role. The director of the production was Maxim Didenko, one of the brightest representatives of modern theater.

"INOSTRANKA" is a modern theater about a man at a turning point. About choice, loss, hope and the ability to preserve irony, even when the familiar world collapses. The production appeals to audiences from different countries and cultures, making the personal story universal.

What makes a person leave home: politics, circumstances, internal crisis or a sudden feeling of "foreignness" in one's own life? The play "INOSTRANKA" seeks answers to these questions by combining the literary basis with the personal story of the actress.

This is not only a stage version of Dovlatov's story, but also a frank conversation between Masha Mashkova and the audience - about her life in exile, her attempts to build a career in Hollywood, Los Angeles, memory, family and growing up. The production exists in the format of a live dialog without the fourth wall - ironic, honest, emotional and therapeutic.

The project raises the theme of emigration as a universal human experience. While in the 1980s emigration was perceived as a domestic drama, today it is an existential choice and a leap into the unknown. However, the essence remains the same: every person at least once in his life finds himself a "foreigner" - in a new country, profession or even in his own destiny.

Artistic concept

Maxim Didenko's authorial method combines theater, cinema and multimedia to form an actual stage language. The performance develops two parallel processes - theatrical and cinematographic. Video becomes not an illustration, but a full-fledged participant in the action, creating a multi-layered artistic space.

The filming of the cinematic part of the project was attended by:
Maxim Sukhanov, Varya Shmykova, Nikita Kukushkin, Nikola Ashurkov.
