Marie is the center of attention. On Christmas Eve, she receives the Nutcracker as a gift from her godfather, Drosselmeyer. Going to bed, she dreams of a battle between toy soldiers led by the Nutcracker and the Mouse King's army. With their help, the Nutcracker wins and then transforms into a prince. The prince travels with Marie to the kingdom of sweets. He goes through the spruce forest to Zuckerburg Castle, where the sugar plum fairy is throwing a party in honor of her guests. In addition, the magnificent scenography by brilliant theater artist Vyacheslav Okunev, who has worked at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg and La Scala in Milan, among others, the beautiful costumes, and the boundless elegance and carefree ease of the International Festival Ballet Ensemble provide a dreamy and fairy-tale version of classical ballet that continues to enchant even after more than 100 years.
