Liya Akhedzhakova plans to perform in Germany
In June and October, audiences in Germany will be able to attend a theater play "My Grandson Veniamin", starring Liya Akhedzhakova. In Russia, the last production featuring the actress was cancelled in April 2023, so Akhedzhakova's European tour is a unique chance to see the theatre and film legend.
Liya Akhedzhakova is known for her active civic position. The actress openly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Because of her uncompromising position, Akhedzhakova was persecuted in her home country.
At the end of April, it became known about the cancellation of the play The Tale of the Last Angel, which was supposed to take place at the Moscow Theatre of the Nations. This was the last production with the participation of People's Artist of Russia Liya Akhedzhakova. The theatre's website stated that the performance was cancelled "due to technical reasons".
Earlier, the Sovremennik Theater, where the actress served for 46 years, cancelled all performances with her participation. The reason for this decision, according to the theatre management, were "angry letters" of the audience to the actress.
The production My Grandson Veniamin, to be staged in Germany, is a touching family story based on the play by Lyudmila Ulitskaya. The main character, Esther, played by Liya Akhedzhakova, undergoes a transformation from the strong and imperious mother of the family, who tries to make her son happy by searching for the "right" bride, to the tender and loving grandmother of her grandson, who is not even her own.
