Spain will host performances of the play "CHEMODAN", based on the works of Sergei Dovlatov—a theatrical story about memory, emigration, home, and the people who remain with us regardless of distance or time.
The production is based on Dovlatov’s famous cycle of short stories. Upon leaving the Soviet Union for the United States, the protagonist takes a small suitcase with him. Years later, every item found inside becomes the basis for a separate story—funny, sad, ironic, and surprisingly relatable. Through simple, everyday details, an entire era and a human life are gradually revealed to the audience.
The leading roles are played by Alexey Kortnev, Alexey Agranovich, Semyon Treskunov, Valentin Samokhin, and Anna Tsagarelli. Their performances, the music, and Dovlatov’s distinctive tone create an atmosphere where humor coexists with nostalgia, and personal memories transform into universal stories of love, friendship, loneliness, and the search for one’s true self.
“The Suitcase” is a play about how sometimes an entire life can fit into one small object. It is a story about a past that cannot be left behind, about the connection to home, and about memory, which helps preserve what matters most.
The performance runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes, with no intermission.
