The play "Drive your plow over the bones of the dead" based on the novel by Olga Tokarczuk with Lia Akhedzhakova

The play is based on the novel of the same name by the winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize for Literature, Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk. The production turns a mystical detective into a multi-layered theatrical work, where noir, irony, poetry and philosophical reflections on man and his place in the world are intertwined.

Plot and features of the play

At first glance this is a story about mysterious murders in the Polish countryside, a forest noir with elements of detective. But behind the exciting plot lies a deep reflection on life and death, on the injustice and rigidity of society.

The protagonist is the odd-eyed Mrs. Dusheiko, a lonely retired teacher, who unexpectedly takes on the task of investigating crimes and fighting for the truth. Her image seems to have been created especially for Liya Akhedzhakova, who brilliantly embodies the character of the heroine, filling it with irony, courage and incredible humanity.

Actress and singer Musya Totibadze acts as Dusheiko's alter ego. Her musical numbers, written to poems by English mystic William Blake, give the production a special atmosphere. Live music and stage images of forest creatures create a unique artistic world of the performance.
