Anna Vilenskaya's Lectures in Europe 2026

In the fall of 2026, Anna Vilenskaya, a renowned musicologist, lecturer, and advocate for classical and contemporary music, will embark on a major European tour. From November 14 to 26, lectures will be held in Barcelona, Zurich, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Amsterdam.

Each session offers an opportunity to view music from a new perspective. Anna Vilenskaya is known for her ability to explain complex musical concepts in simple, clear, and engaging language. Her lectures are equally interesting to people without a musical background and to professional musicians. No special preparation is required to attend the events.

“Disco: The Rise and Fall of the 20th Century’s Most Influential Genre” —a lecture on disco’s journey from its birth in underground clubs to its global triumph and dramatic decline.

“How Global Catastrophes Shape Musical Evolution” —a discussion on how major events across different eras have transformed the sound of music, the fates of composers, and musical traditions.

“The Music of the Future: Fears That Have Already Come True and New Hopes.” Anna Vilenskaya will discuss which fears of composers and listeners have already become reality and which have remained mere myths, why TikTok is changing the structure of popular songs, and how algorithms influence what we listen to every day.

“Who Invented Conductors, and What Do They Actually Get Paid For?” —a lecture on what a conductor actually does before taking the stage, how rehearsals with an orchestra unfold, and why even an ensemble consisting of outstanding musicians, needs someone who can unite dozens of performers into a single artistic whole.

“The Evolution of Pop Music: From Urban Romances to K-pop” —a program on the history of popular music—from 19th-century urban romances and variety shows to the global phenomenon of K-pop.

“Hit or Hype: Music from Cartoons—A Debate Between Anna Vilenskaya and Natasha Panfilova.” At this unusual event, musicologist Anna Vilenskaya and marketing specialist Natasha Panfilova will examine the same question from different perspectives and try to determine what really lies behind the success of animated films.

“A Symphony Day with Anna Vilenska”:

1:00–3:00 p.m. — private lecture

The day will begin with an introduction and a lecture by Anna Vilenskaya. You’ll learn about the history of the works, hear interesting facts about the composers and their era, and—most importantly—gain an understanding of which musical details, themes, and techniques to pay attention to during the performance. After this session, the concert will reveal itself in a whole new light.

4:00–7:00 p.m. — Concert by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra

A concert by one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras. Thanks to the introductory lecture, you’ll be able to listen to the music with greater awareness, noticing artistic choices that often go unnoticed.

The evening’s program features:

• Pyotr Tchaikovsky — Overture to the opera *Eugene Onegin*;
• Sergei Rachmaninoff — Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18;
• Johannes Brahms — Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98.

7:00–9:00 p.m. — dinner and discussion

After the concert, participants are invited to a small dinner with Anna Vilenskaya. This is an opportunity to discuss what you’ve heard, ask questions, share impressions, and view the concert through the eyes of a musicologist. It is this part that makes the event particularly valuable—a lively conversation about music among like-minded people.
