Julia Varshavskaya. Lecture " Women's History of Emigration"

In February 2025, in Berlin, journalist and social activist Julia Varshavskaya will present her lecture "Women's History of Emigration". Yulia is a columnist of the same name on Spektr.prressy and is involved in gender equality issues.

In the series of articles "Women's History of Emigration" for Spektr.Press, Yulia Varshavskaya tells about the fates of women who found themselves abroad during the White Emigration (1917-1920s). The move to Europe, the United States, Brazil, and China changed their lives dramatically: some were engaged in philanthropy and science, while others supported emigrant communities and preserved Russian culture.

Among the heroines of her articles are Zinaida Gippius, Ida Rubinstein, Nadezhda Taffy, Vera Giedroyts, Zinaida Serebryakova, Marina Tsvetaeva, Tamara Karsavina, and others.

Varshavskaya's lecture will focus on these women, and Julia will also draw parallels with the contemporary experience of female emigration.

You can purchase a standard ticket or a ticket with dinner* in the company of Julia Varshavskaya after the lecture. Seating is limited.

*The price includes a ticket and dinner (meal + drink).
