Maria Mashkova in the play "The Nadezhdins"

Actress Maria Mashkova, known not only for her roles in film and theater, but also for her courageous civic stance, will present in Germany the acclaimed play "Nadezhdiny". This dramatic love story, set against the backdrop of the collapse of the Empire and revolution, is based on the real story of the actress's own ancestors.

The play tells the love story of an uncompromising publicist, a young exiled revolutionary Evgeny Nadezhdin and Melania Sevruk - the great-grandmother of the famous actress and rising Hollywood star Masha Mashkova ("Limonov" by K. Serebrennikov, "For All Mankind", I.S.S., etc.). Being not only an associate but also the main opponent of Lenin, Nadezhdin was destroyed by the Soviet regime and deliberately erased from the memory of contemporaries.

On stage, Maria Mashkova resurrects the dramatic events of the past, which strikingly echo today. The voice of Nadezhdin, sounding in the performance, belongs to another star of theater and cinema Anatoly Belom.

The production is distinguished by incredible dynamics, a huge number of extraordinary directorial finds, special effects, shadow theater, animation, film projection. While watching the performance one gets the feeling that there is not just one actress on the stage, but a whole troupe.

You can learn more about the history of the people whose biographies formed the basis of the performance from the full interview Masha Mashkova and Mila Zelenskaya gave to Katerina Gordeeva.
