You will be able to enjoy this timeless ballet classic performed by International Festival Ballet on the stages of German theaters in January 2025. The fairytale atmosphere on stage is created by grandiose sets by theater artist Vyacheslav Okunev, who has worked at the world's best opera houses - the Mariinsky and La Scala.
In 2022, the artists of International Festival Ballet (at that time it was called St. Petersburg Festival Ballet) under the direction of Alexey Bogutsky openly expressed their protest against Russia's aggressive actions against Ukraine. The company's position: art should unite. The dance company has a large number of dancers from Ukraine. In total there are 42 dancers in the company - graduates of the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg, the Moscow Academy of Choreography, the ballet school in Ufa and the Academy of Ballet in Perm.
The choreographic magic on stage is accompanied by orchestral music performed by the Festival Orchestra under the baton of conductor Normunds Vaitzis. The orchestra includes talented musicians from Moldova, Ukraine and Latvia .
The Festival Orchestra's repertoire includes works by Ravel, Debussy, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Massenet, Fauré and Albegis, Gounod and many others. Music from classical ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle and Don Quixote is central to the musicians' repertoire. Festival Orchestra has performed with great success in France, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and other European countries and, despite its relatively small composition, has established itself as one of the best ballet orchestras in Europe.
