InternationalFestivalBallet & FestivalOrchestrapresent the ballet "Swan Lake"

The history of classical dance knows no more successful ballet than Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. The choreography of the first production, presented to the audience in 1877, was created by the outstanding choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. In December 2024, ballet fans in Germany will have the unique opportunity to see the classic ballet performed by one of the best contemporary ballet companies, International Festival Ballet, with live accompaniment by the Festival Orchestra.

The romantic tale of the young prince Siegfried and the swan princess Odette, which formed the basis of the libretto of the most famous ballet, is a story about the power of true love to break evil spells.

This masterpiece of choreographic art has been part of the repertoire of all ballet companies for many years, and the Allegro Moderato ("Dance of the Little Swans") is the most performed allegro.

You will be able to enjoy this timeless ballet classic performed by International Festival Ballet on the stages of German theaters in January 2025. The fairytale atmosphere on stage is created by grandiose sets by theater artist Vyacheslav Okunev, who has worked at the world's best opera houses - the Mariinsky and La Scala.

In 2022, the artists of International Festival Ballet (at that time it was called St. Petersburg Festival Ballet) under the direction of Alexey Bogutsky openly expressed their protest against Russia's aggressive actions against Ukraine. The company's position: art should unite. The dance company has a large number of dancers from Ukraine. In total there are 42 dancers in the company - graduates of the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg, the Moscow Academy of Choreography, the ballet school in Ufa and the Academy of Ballet in Perm.

The choreographic magic on stage is accompanied by orchestral music performed by the Festival Orchestra under the baton of conductor Normunds Vaitzis. The orchestra includes talented musicians from Moldova, Ukraine and Latvia .

The Festival Orchestra's repertoire includes works by Ravel, Debussy, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Massenet, Fauré and Albegis, Gounod and many others. Music from classical ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle and Don Quixote is central to the musicians' repertoire. Festival Orchestra has performed with great success in France, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and other European countries and, despite its relatively small composition, has established itself as one of the best ballet orchestras in Europe.
