It has always occupied a special niche in Russian rock and Russian music in general. Through the songs of Yuri Shevchuk and the vivid performances of his band, one can study the history of modern Russia at its steep, unpredictable turns. DDT songs are not just music, they are a chronicle of the newest time, history and soul of the country. The band's musical language has changed dramatically over the course of its existence: from rhythm and blues to jazz, industrial and indie music. Acute social problems sounded in the notes of philosophical lyrics.
During their long creative life DDT released dozens of popular albums, toured the country and the world with several large conceptual concert programs in which modern multimedia technologies were widely used. The band is known for its original video works, in the creation of which famous directors and artists not only from Russia, but from different countries took part. It writes music for movies. Yuri Shevchuk has two poetry collections out at the moment. The band is actively involved in charity work, etc.
And whatever happens in our complicated, fragile world, Shevchuk's songs always have two important things for a contemporary in any corner of the earth: truth and hope. Perhaps this explains his phenomenal popularity for decades.
