Lyapis Trubetskoy

Lyapis Trubetskoy is a band formed in Minsk in 1990, closely associated with singer and songwriter Sergey Mikhalok. Over the years, its music evolved from ironic songs and theatrical characters into an energetic blend of rock, ska and punk. After the band ceased activity in 2014, Mikhalok resumed performing under the Lyapis Trubetskoy name in 2022.

The music combines driving guitars with danceable rhythms, brass arrangements and memorable choruses. Its lyrics bring together satire, grotesque imagery and romance with reflections on freedom and human dignity. The contrast between humour and seriousness, melody and a raw delivery gives Lyapis Trubetskoy its distinctive character.
